I love speculative fiction books and the only time I have seen an author write about Goblins was Laurell Hamilton in her Meredith Gentry series. The Goblins in Ms Husk’s series are nothing like the ones in Ms Hamilton’s series. Frankly, I am not so sure that is a good thing since Ms Hamilton’s may be ugly and mean, but they sure aren’t broody and annoyingly angst-y.
This book seemed over-written, using purple prose and as another reader/reviewer said, all Ms Husk did was rehash the same whining points. It was dark depressing and at times down-right annoying for me. If I can’t see some light at the end of the tunnel, I don’t feel like I really want to keep reading and this book I had to force my way through it. The heroine was as childish as any that I have ever seen and largely whining.
I’m certainly glad I didn’t read the prequel as many others did because I may have even been more disappointed.
