Some Like It Hot

Some Like It Hot - Susan Andersen
This was not my favorite of Ms Anderson’s books. However, by no means was it a bad book. It just didn’t grab me by the throat right away like some of her other books do. This book is part of a series/trilogy yet can be easily read as a stand-alone novel.

Ms. Anderson really doesn’t dwell too much on past story-lines for a new reader to have any difficulty with the book, plot line or even the characters themselves. This book does set up quite nicely for the next in the series and the next book appears to be an interesting one.

Harper is sort of living a lie here in Razor Bay –she is working for the in but in reality is checking out a charity that her parent’s foundation is looking to donate to. This is really her job, to assess charities all over the country for the foundation. She never stays in one place long enough to settle. Then into the picture comes the hotter than hot Deputy Sheriff, Max. Of course, things seem to sizzle right off the bat, but Ms Anderson holds off on the fireworks until the second half of the book. This allows the readers and the characters time to develop a relationship.

There was too much silly and superficial angst for me to enjoy the characters thoroughly. The ending and the ‘happily ever after’ was complicated and I found myself rolling my eyes a bit when Harper eventually gave in. I know that the author needed to conclude the story to everyone’s satisfaction, but I kind of would have liked to have seen Harper not crumble so easily.

This was a fairly fast and easy read and one that didn’t give me too much emotional investment. That was a little disappointing for me.
